Commissioning Week Part 2

Sunday, May 17th - Since we were just a few miles from the site where Flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, PA on 9-11, we decided it would be a worthwhile trip to see the memorial. It is way out in the country. As Ken said, it must have taken the rescuers quite some time to get there. There were only a few country homes or farms that we saw along the way. It was windy and almost desolate there, which just added to the feelings of loss that were expressed there. Words can hardly convey what it is like to visit. Here are some photos though:

Then we headed south to Annapolis. We arrived at 205 Porter Drive, the house we rented for the week, and met the owners.

Our first official obligation was the garden party at the Supe's house. All Firsties and their families are invited, but the party is held over three evenings, since there are over 1,000 Firsties in the class. The Superintendent lives on the Naval Academy grounds. Note his house is a bit bigger than our little cottage!

We waited in line to meet Superintendent Fowler and had our picture taken with him and his wife.

The weather cooperated, the food was delicious and the table decorations were very appropriate!
By the time we got back to the house George and Donna Zintak were on their way from Dulles, having flown in from California. It was great having them visit and share in this fun week. We stayed up late each night chatting and drinking the wine they provided - YUM!
